The full performance Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) is assigned to the Department of Veteran Affairs, Veterans Health Administration (VHA). This position serves as an advanced technician for the Nursing, Acute Care service for patients who are present for treatment. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) - Specialized Experience: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. GS-07 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Assisting licensed personnel with the delivery of care to patients with complex and specialized care needs. Performing Blood Specimen collection: venipuncture, PIV, Central lines, arterial lines and cultures. Performing Medication Administration: intramuscular, oral, topical, eye drops, etc. Operating specialized medical equipment to obtain diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes (EKG machines, Blood warmers, Rapid Infusers, Bladder scanner, dopplers, ultrasound machine). Performing observation-based screening and collection of patient information in collaboration with licensed personnel. Providing patient education within scope of care or while providing an intervention. (Examples: post-procedural care and wound care). Thoroughly and appropriately documenting actions, interventions, and procedures. OR, Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-07 level. Applicants must have successfully completed 1 full year of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position such as phlebotomy, nursing, or other related subjects. OR, Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-07 level. Applicants must have equivalent combinations of creditable specialized experience and education as described above to meet the total experience requirements for the position. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-07. Performing Medication Administration: intramuscular, oral, topical, eye drops, ear drops, intranasal, rectal suppositories, local anesthetics, nebulized medications, subcutaneous, and intradermal. Assisting licensed staff with preparing patients for medical evaluation, setting up equipment, passing instruments and providing treatment. Operating specialized medical equipment to obtain diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes (EKG machines, Blood warmers, Rapid Infusers, Bladder scanner, dopplers, ultrasound machine). Collecting specimens and prepares them for transfer to process. Performing 12-lead electrocardiograms. Providing patient education within scope of care or while providing an intervention. (Examples: post-procedural care and wound care). Conducting or assisting with the training of personnel in if appropriately trained, certified and/or qualified. Performing observation-based screening and collection of patient information in collaboration with licensed personnel. Performing Chest Tube Closed Drainage System Management. Performing Vital Signs and Point of Care Testing (Blood Glucose and iSTAT). Thoroughly and appropriately documenting actions, interventions, and procedures in the medical record. (Examples: Procedural notes, progress notes, screenings, photo-documentation and secure messaging.) Performing Cardiac Rhythm Test. Performing Endotracheal and Trach Tube Suctioning, Dressings, Skin and Oral care. Performing External Jugular Venous Access. Performing Fecal Containment Devices Management. Performing Management of Hypothermic, Hyperthermic Devices. Implanting Venous Port Access and De-access. Performing IV Therapy: tubing change, initiation, prevention and Management of extravasations and ultrasound guided placement. Performing oxygen therapy and delivery. Performing Nasogastric Tube: insertion, irrigation, removal. Performing Postmortem Care. Managing Philips Bedside Monitor MX 800. Managing Foley Catheter: care and maintenance, insertion, removal and specimen collection. Performing Intraosseous Access Management and insertion. Managing Restraints: application and Monitoring.
