This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: 2-3ys of Outpatient Chronic Hemodialysis experience, >1yr Inpatient Acute Hemodialysis experience. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, Dialysis Unit, the dialysis staff nurse maintains accountability for the coordination and delivery of care to dialysis patients. Core elements of performance include: Knowledge and active participation in dialysis center level quality improvement processes as well as customer service programs. Clinical competence is required in the delivery of End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) outpatient and inpatient care. Based on education and experience, the dialysis staff nurse may be assigned responsibilities as a preceptor or mentor to other employees, trainees, or students. You may also serve as the charge nurse. The dialysis staff nurse demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. This role involves an understanding of the specialized care required to promote desired clinical outcomes for ESRD patients in accordance with the End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Conditions for Coverage established by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and National Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative (KDOQI) guidelines. The dialysis RN must assume \"on call\" status when assigned. The \"on call\" role requires performance of urgent hemodialysis on acutely ill patients including pre or post renal and liver transplant patients in a variety of treatment settings. The nurse must be able to respond to the hospital within one hour of notification.
