The Registered Nurse is a part of the team concept in the clinical setting for the delivery of health care at USMD, which is devoted to the delivery of primary care in an ambulatory setting with the emphasis on disease prevention health maintenance and patient satisfaction. This individual works closely with the clinical staff, front desk personnel and other related departments order to provide optimal healthcare and support to patients and their families.
Performs patient screening and triage utilizing the nursing process and assessment skills
Performs all duties in accordance with clinical, OSHA and infection control standards
Establishes a compassionate environment providing emotional, psychological and spiritual support to patients, friends and families
Handles triage phone calls
Promotes patient’s independence by establishing patient care goal: teaching patient, friends and family to understand condition, medications and self-care skills
Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards: measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards: making or recommending necessary adjustments: following the standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act and other governing agency requirements
Performs general clinical care to patients, administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with clinical standards and physician orders
Prepare patients for, and assist with, examinations and treatments
Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records
Escorts patients to exam rooms, interviews patient, measures vital signs (i.e. weight, blood pressure, pulse and temperature) and documents in patient chart
Record patients’ medical history, health maintenance and chief complaint
Aids physician or associate practitioner during treatment, examinations and testing of patients
Observe, receive and obtain information from all relevant sources in order to provide optimal nursing care
Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity, with a special emphasis on the high risk patient
Monitor, record, and report symptoms and changes in patients’ conditions
Consult and coordinate with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans
Modify patients’ nursing care plans as indicated by patients’ responses and conditions
Prepare and administer medications, as prescribed by the provider, applying aseptic technique
Observe patient response to medications administered and reports adverse events to provider
Handle triage phone calls
Perform other duties as assigned

Associate’s Degree, Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas, or compact state, nursing license
Current BLS certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
Minimum of two years nursing experience in a clinic or office setting
Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking with the ability to move or lift at least fifty pounds
Verbal and writing ability required to communicate effectively in informing employees of activities and policies
Ability to receive, comprehend, and carry out instructions; ability to work safely with equipment, supplies, and materials; ability to comply with attendance requirements; ability to comply with Human Resource policies
This position requires Tuberculosis screening as well as proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis through lab confirmation of immunity, documented evidence of vaccination, or a doctor’s diagnosis of disease
