This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. ANCC Certification in endoscopy nursing or certification with SGNA Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. ["The Registered Nurse (RN) practices in the Gastroenterology Endoscopy Unit, Nursing Section of the Patient Care Service within the Detroit VAMC. The Gastroenterology Endoscopic nurse specializes in treating adult and older adult veterans with acute and chronic conditions. Common patient medical conditions include gastroenterological, diseases, endocrine, hematology, oncology, and cardiology, respiratory renal and infectious diseases/conditions. Patients frequently experience transitory mental status changes or have a secondary psychiatric diagnosis. These veterans may be inpatients, outpatients or same day surgery requiring interventional procedures such as colonoscopy, liver biopsy, ERCP with use of conscious sedation. Demonstrates technical and operational knowledge and is able to apply these skills in the clinical setting. Operates specialized therapeutic and life support equipment. Demonstrates skill using approved guidelines such as ACLS protocols in emergent situations such as arrhythmias, cardiac arrests, compromised airway and hemodynamic instability. Accountable for a defined group of patients during the pre/post procedure phases. Provides education to patient/family regarding the procedure including post procedure instruction.
