Perform a variety of nonprofessional nursing duti es in the direct careof patients under the direct supervision of an RN.S erves to provide Duke University Heath System with an opportunity torecr uit and retain top quality new graduate nurses interested inproviding op timal care with the 10 week program.Provide a work experience to enhance transition for the nursing studentinto practice as a registered nurse t hrough professional clinicalexperience.
< p>Be assigned 1:1 with and RN clinical partner for the entire 10 weekexp erienceWork with the same one unit and work the same shift as assigned R Nclinical partnerPrepare patients, equipment and supplies for specific p rocedures andprovide manual assistance as requiredObtain and record pati ent data for medical records noting andinformation RN of information col lectedAdminister treatment and personal care procedures to patients incl uding,but not limited to feeding, bathing, shaving, changing clothing,cl eaning and trimming fingernails, bed making, assisting withambulation, enemas, skin care, and bowel and bladder elimination;provide such additi onal care as required to meet the personal needs andcomfort of assigned patients.Participate in teaching activities by reinforcing teaching inst ructed byRN/physicians as needed.Assist physician and nurses with physic al examinations by helpingposition patients, changing non sterile dressi ng and weighing patients.Take and record vital signs, record I & O, appl y ice bags, administerdouches and enemas. Note and report any changes in patient's condition.Turn and position patients, set up and feed patient s as necessary, andprovide patients with fresh drinking water.Perform fi nger sticks for blood glucose testing, with appropriatetraining.Collect, deliver and conduct routine tests on patient specimens. Cleanassigned a rea; stock and replenish supplies and equipment as required.Assist with admission, discharge, and transportation of patients. Followstandard pre cautions and use personal protective equipment as required.

Applicants must have successfully completed their junior year in an NLN/CCNE/ACNE accredited nursing program.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Applicants must provide evidence of current listing with the North Carolina Division of Health Services Regulation/Nurse Aide I Registry. COVID-19 emergency response: Through August 2020, applicants are required to complete at least two clinical semesters of an NLN/CCNE/ACEN Accredited Nursing Program to qualify for the program in place of the Nurse Aide I registry. Applicants must provide evidence of current AHA or American Red Cross Basic Life Support Healthcare provider status that will be valid for the entire length of the PNA experience. CEPD can provide BLS at orientation if they were unable to obtain prior to coming to DUHS. If applicant becomes a permanent DUHS employee, applicant must be current with an AHA Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider card. Applicants must commit to employment to work 36 hours per week for the entire 10 week program following the work schedule therefore seeking or maintaining additional employment during these 10 weeks are strongly discouraged. Applicants will agree to attend an institution specific orientation program.
