Nursing Assistants at this grade level function as a member of the nursing care team and assist licensed nursing staff in the care of patients/residents receiving outpatient care, home or community living care or other patients/residents who are in acute, sub-acute or chronic states of illness. The distinguishing factor is that patient/resident assignments typically involve more complex nursing needs which can vary within a range of predictable to unpredictable requirements. The Nursing Assistants for the Pool Personnel will report to the Staffing Coordinator/ Nursing On Duty Supervisor and will provide quality nursing care to a variety of patients ranging from age 18 - 100+ years. Your work assignments will be based on the need of the Hospital at the time and will be expected to float throughout the Hospital. You will obtain and record vital data such as height, weight, allergies, primary complaints, and any additional data required by the provider, and you will record vital signs and collect specimens for laboratory testing. You will provide complete, or assist with, personal hygiene care, including bowel and bladder needs. You will turn and position patients to maintain proper body alignment, and will lift, transfer and ambulate patients using good body mechanics and assistive/safety equipment such as gait belts, braces, splints, crutches, canes, mechanical lifts. You will apply and care for external urinary devices and accurately measure and record output and bladder scanning. You will assist in setting up and operating special equipment such as special beds, traction, overhead trapeze bars, oxygen and oral suctioning. You maybe responsible for performing standards 12-lead EKGs, and provide nursing care to patients receiving intravenous therapy. When required, you will perform 1:1 observation and report changes in the patient's condition to the nurse, and will document observations and care. You will provide information based on patient's condition, acceptance of limited physical mobility, body mechanics, colostomy care and irrigations, and will provide the patient and family after care instructions and assist therapeutic groups. If required, you will initiate and/or assist with emergency measures, including maintaining airway, CPRS, and protecting patients having seizures.
