| Education and length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay) This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until June 30, 2021. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be January 11, 2021, with subsequent cut-off dates weekly on every Friday. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled. NOTE: Highly qualified candidates may be eligible for a Recruitment/Relocation Incentive. This position is a full-time Physician located at the Central Alabama VA Medical Center, assigned to the Acute Care and Specialties Service Line as an Emergency Medicine Physician located at Montgomery, AL. Duties include, but are not limited to: Direct patient care focused on the immediate decision making and action necessary to prevent death or any further disability both in the out-of-hospital setting by interacting with emergency medical technicians and in the emergency department. Asses, evaluate, diagnose, and provide initial treatment to adult patients who present in the Emergency Department with any symptom, illness, injury, or condition; to provide services necessary to ameliorate minor illnesses or injuries and stabilize patients with major illnesses or injuries; and to assess all patients to determine whether additional care is necessary. Perform procedures related to Emergency Department such as but not limited to: basic and advanced airway management, rapid sequence intubation, ,management of mechanical ventilation, administration of moderate sedation, EKG interpretation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, cardioversion, defibrillation, transcutaneous cardiac pacing, venous central line placement, intraosseous access, peripheral arterial puncture for ABGs, NGT placement, gastric lavage, gastrostomy and tracheostomy tube replacement, reduction and immobilization of fractures and dislocations, wound care and closure (suture), abscess incision/drainage, lumbar puncture, knee arthrocentesis, anterior nasal packing, peripheral vein catheterization, vaginal pelvic exam and Foley Bladder Catheterization. Also, emergency surgical procedures indicated by emergency medical conditions or injuries such as emergent cricothyrotomy, and chest tube placement. Participation in the coordination of interfacility transfers for patients requesting transfer from another emergency department to the CAVHCS emergency department. Participation in the coordination and recommendation for appropriate destination of patients in the out-of-hospital environment requesting access to the CAVHCS emergency department. Active participation in the coordination of efficient patient flow in the emergency dept. Active participation in the activation and deactivation of Hospital Diversion mode Participate actively in performance improvement and attend assigned meetings or process action teams. Work collaboratively with other specialties. Follow VA directives and polices and maintains current in BLS and ACLS. Possess computer skills to access and input typed data on each patient into the computerized patient record system (CPRS). Maintain license to practice medicine or surgery in a state, territory or commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Required to possess full and unrestricted licensure and to maintain current registration. Provides direct clinical supervision of advanced practice nurses and Intermediate Care Technicians (ICT), including supervision of procedures and co-signature of notes. Emergency Department Physicians are responsible for the supervision of assigned residents and students rotating in the Emergency Department. Supervision shall include review of medical records, patient care, treatment, and consultation requests. There shall be an active and dynamic interchange of care in the clinical setting. Establishes professional working relationships with other clinical service providers within the medical center and outlying clinics, provide telephone and e-consult consultations as needed. Cooperates with and participate in medical duties or functions related to quality of care, peer review and with other performance improvement activities as directed. Attend mandatory trainings, such as, VA Voices, Own the Moment, comply with CME requirements in the specialty of Urology, and must complete the required TMS courses timely. Must be aware and compliant of VA SAIL metrics and VA Performance Measures. Timely completion of peer reviews, procedures and complications periodic reports, participation on staff meetings, representation of the Emergency Department on hospital's committees and other sections specific duties as assigned by section chief.
