RN in the Intensive Care Unit. Patient populations include, but are not limited to: cardiac, thoracic, vascular, neurosurgical, general surgical, orthopedic patients with or without extenuating co-morbidities, pulmonary, renal, endocrine, and/or GI conditions. The RN is accountable when assigned as a primary nurse for a defined group of patients for the entire episode of care. As the assigned caregiver for a specific shift, the RN is accountable for defined groups of patients on that shift.
